Too much testosterone again this week. I don't know if anyone else in RP has ever played in a Marching Band, but I did for four years. We did it the traditional Northern Style (military style precision playing) much like Drum Corps or DCI, and while fun, there wasn't any "WOW" factor in it. The is NC A&T marching band, and they play in the traditional "Showmanship" or "Southern" style. I will be going to see this band in real life this year. It's one of my resolutions. Some of the play is sloppy and a fellow musician knows this. But that's not the point, If you look at the video closely it's not all about the band, there are former bandmates, former dancers for the band, and it's one happy session. The point behind this is we sweat the small and large stuff, and hardly take time for ourselves. These folks took a traditional thing that this band does at almost every show, and these folks are happy, cheering, and egging it on. THIS is what America needs to do. Find the music that moves your heart and share with the world. This is an HBCU, but do not think for a second it's only blacks in this band. Over the years there have been a FEW white or non black in this band, and they TORE THE MUTHER DOWN, Rhythm and all. And if you really look closely, there are senior citizens in the line, and there is a kid maybe three years old, and he's beating that drum with all his little heart. He also travels with the band. Do not look at the music for it's clarity, but look at it for it's fun and ability to unite.
BTW the Drummers will put the beat on you, hard or soft,
the woodwinds will blow your mind,
the Tubas will bring the bass to you to make you feel the power
But its the trumpets that take you high, and they take you low, but in the end, they've
taken you to a whole level of feelings being they are without a doubt the "singers" of the
band. And when they make love to your ears, you body will quiver and you'll enjoy the best
sound ever to touch your minds
that the world can offer.
