NC company charges veterans for benefits advice they could get for free

This is a prime example of legality vs morality. While it isn't exactly illegal to sell a service that someone can get for free, that absolutely doesn't make it right. However, just because you can doesn't mean you should (just look at Jurassic Park...)
With that said here is a large dose of advice for anyone on this board getting ready to separate or retire. Don't EVER trust anyone who offers to increase your VA rating for a fee. They might be able to get you more than you would on your own, but there are already numerous military organizations who will do the same thing at no cost, and have direct connections to the VA and history working with them. They will not only do it for free, but will be doing it from a position of member advocate and truly looking out for your best interest. Look into organizations like the VFW, DAV, American Legion...
