This is something that sounds of GEN Marshall - not ever seen it as a talking point or source of mandatory DA powerpoint slides... but sure wish it was said!!!!! "We must restore trust across the board, which means we have to start seeing the best in one another again. We have to stop, as a service, looking darkly upon one another. We must return to a culture that presumes good intentions and honorability unless and until evidence to the contrary presents itself. Trust is critical in our business. We go to war together, and without trust in one another as wingmen, victory is not possible. War doesn’t permit constant monitoring or verification."

"Your duty as a leader is to work tirelessly to clear obstacles between your people and their mission. Whether this means burning red tape, providing additional training, mentoring individuals through difficult personal and professional challenges, or administering “tough love” … it’s your job to determine what is needed and then cause it to materialize."

There has been a lot of pressure at the tactical level as of late. This message gives a glimmer of hope for the future. If we all jumped on board right now, we'd be smooth sailing before we know it...If we all jumped on board..

If only it were a true speech. JQP made it all up, per the bottom of the link page. :(

I would say that part of the morale problem is covered in this speech - even if it was made up. Making up something is one thing - but this took alot of effort to story build and the result is an item that any leader from a CPL to GEN can actually pull from and look at and implement. Leadership is an item that is not too often showed in the senior ranks these days - for every Sean McFarland you have a half dozen who seem scared to think out loud or outside the box or to take initiative to make needed changes. If that sounds very harsh - it is. Look at the professional writings out there and who is doing them and who is not - and if a senior leader can not address innovation or new changes to make the profession better ---- what exactly are their thoughts on leadership?

It's actually funny you say that. Just today I was talking colleagues about presidential requirements. A couple of us thought that if a requirement were to be prior military service, but how much time and grade was the question. We came to the conclusion that of any, it should be at least that of an O-6 or higher. I just thought it was comical you said leadership is not often shown at that level nowadays.
