I realize that an ArmyTimes article is still a long way from reality, but what are your thoughts on this?
Personally, I think that if the differences are not for medical reasons every single Soldier should be treated the same as every single other Soldier who does the same thing for the Army, with the same number of years experience, at the same duty location. If ANYBODY is allowed a beard everybody should be allowed a beard.
Edit to add: Similarly, I do not think, especially in today's world, that if the Army were to allow earrings/piercings that there should be a gender specified for who is authorized. Everybody or nobody.

Had Beards in the Navy that I Joined in 76 they were not phased out until 1980 about the same time they made us PT and started the Urinalysis Program. I don't have a problem with a Sailor in a Beard harkens back to a Traditional Past. Earrings not My Thing but Old Salty Dogs and Pirates were known to wear them. Now Nail Polish Might Clash with about everything I would wear though.
