Don’t know what happened over the years, but in peacetime and stateside, we in the Navy, tracked firearms and exact number of rounds.

I had guard duty for a few months in 1987. We counted every round into and out of the armory every posting.

Everyone that has a weapons card and weapon assigned to them should be held accountable for any weapon missing, and the supervisor of that person should do a search for said weapon with the individual and exhaust all means possible to find it MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D.
