I still think an important part of the answer is warrant officer pilots for drones and manned aircraft. At least 50% of pilot positions could be WOs and still have enough commissioned officers to feed the pipeline to unit command and headquarters staffs. However, changing part of the pilot workforce to WOs won't solve the problem cited in the article. The pipeline from accession to operational capability is too long and has too low capacity. Program needs money for more planes, people, and flying time. We know how to do this. We produced a lot more pilots during Vietnam.
