It tends to lean Right in its opinion pages, but the news reports remain surprising objective in an age when objectivity is politically incorrect. Yes, of course, the choice of articles is driven by a Right of Center POV, but that hardly balances a world of journalism that doesn't just lean, it has fallen to the Left

The Navy and the Air Force have all the big, impressive toys while the Army and the Marines have their feet, their rifles, and their guts. Just remember that no Navy or Air Force ever won a war. A war isn't won until an infantryman stands on enemy territory and claims victory

One more point. All other forces make a major contribution to the war/ground effort.
An Air Force pilot made a tongue-in-cheek comment to me when he said "Ya, we get to fly over the battle field and pay you a visit. But we don't have to stay".

U.S. Navy Fleet vs the Soviets and China. Aircraft Carrier comparison. The Russians have (one) carrier that saw action off the Syrian coast in 2017 ? The very first time this carrier launched air strikes against enemy ground forces. In the process they lost two aircraft. The cause is unknown. Several months ago a fire broke out on the carrier killing 1 injuring 11 others.
China has one home grown carrier. Likely a couple other carriers built by another county but I'm not sure how many. Their goal is to have up to 5 carriers (their own) by 2030.
The U.S. Navy can thank LTC. Billy Mitchell USA for advocating the Navy build carriers and not more battle wagons. He saw Navel Air Power as the future for America's sea power and the extension of American political power. Both the Navy and Army resisted his concept of sinking ships with air power. After a demonstration sinking ships by air was he able to prove his point. The debate was very public at the time. Thanks to doggedly pursuing his fight the Navy began building Carriers. (The Japanese were watching closely and built carriers....Peal Harbor)
Billy Mitchell was Courts Martialed but was later promoted to BG. And MG after his death. A great movie was made about LTC. Mitchell staring Gary Cooper. There are several books about the man.
If you like Milt. history you will enjoy reading about another great American.

LTC (Join to see) - That was an excellent Many historians disagree on some minor points as to what actually happened during the bombing trials. It was been reported by one observer and news reporter that the Navy cheated on their bombing tests. They used sand bags and not bombs in an attempt to fool observers proving bombing ships at sea would not work.
LTC. Mitchell was pissed and flew his own 1,000 lbs to make the tests valid. His planes did not hit a single ship. The blasts and concussions in the water from near miss's caused the bulk heads to buckle and water poured in sinking the vessels. He made his point and won the debate despite the political pressure against the tests.
I recall reading a few years ago after these tests U.S. ship designers and builders took into account the need build stronger hulls to prevent structural damage due do high pressures and concussion from near misses.

LTC Lee Bouchard My belated Dad and I saw the movie on reruns in the 1970s. He explained it to me as a kid. Those other foreign observers (Japan) present sure paid attention!
