A number of European countries have decided to suspend the use of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine as a precaution, following reports that a small number of people have suffered blood clots after getting the jab. Among them is France, where Covid-19 infections are not going down and officials say the Paris region may be headed toward a new lockdown as new variants fill up intensive care wards and limited vaccine supplies drag down inoculation efforts.
Dr Eric Revue is head of the emergency department at Lariboisiere Hospital in Paris, part of the Ile de France region, where one Covid patient is currently being admitted to intensive care every 12 minutes. He explains the critical nature of the latest infections.
