The US has recorded more than 250,000 deaths from Covid-19 as cases soar once again across the country. It has more reported infections and deaths than any other country, and the numbers of new cases have hit new daily highs in the last week.
Emergency physician Dr Bradley Dreifuss who works in Tuscon, Arizona describes the conditions at his hospital, where, on top of the pressure from the numbers of cases and overcrowding, many staff are suffering from anxiety and PTSD. He says there are severe staff shortages and that many nurses and physicians have left due to "moral distress". He speaks of his anxiety about the upcoming Thanksgiving celebrations: "If our population do not take this seriously, we're going to see our health system fail."
