CW5 Jack Cardwell We'll see if it stays Closed. Last time it just shut down as a Naval Security Group Activity and Reopened as a NIOC a Few Years Later. Be a Shame to waste those Parabolic Dishes and Radomes.

I was sent there on TDY as a contractor for about 4 weeks back in the early 90’s. One of my better assignments when I worked for E-Systems. Actually, it was a good vacation given that nothing was ready for me when I got there. After familiarizing myself with the left-handed stick shift, I spent my days touring the area, especially York. Cool city. Didn’t spend much time at Menwith Hill, since everything was compartmented.
Stayed at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate. Great hotel, I think Agatha Christie was a frequent guest there at one time.

Interestingly, I found a reference to Menwith Hill in this link (I was at Ft. Belvoir at the time of my visit to Menwith Hill):

Funny thing, though. I remember when the name National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) was classified. Now there’s a website (https://www.nro.gov) and if you travel around the Reston, VA, area, you’ll see low level windowless buildings with fences, barbed wire, etc. and big signs saying NRO. NRO headquarters is in Chantilly, VA.

MSgt Neil Greenfield - Didn't it used to be in a "Car Dealership" back at one time.
