There is no easy answer.
1. Do you have the right skills, education and experience?
a. If you don't have experience, volunteer and earn it.
b. If you don't have the knowledge and education, hit the books, get PMP or certification.
c. If you need skills, read development books, join toastmasters or another organization to improve.
2. If your resume is in military lingo. Title: Supply Sgt, 15 years and 20 bullets below...
a. Show a path of progression from PVT = Supply Journeyman, who lead and trained 3 supply personal and reported weekly inspection reports to senior leadership...
b. SSG = Supply Chain Manger, Managed command supply management program with 4.75 million in property across 3 warehouses. Managed and trained 5 civilian and military supply personal. Coordinated quarterly inspections with 99.85% compliance over 2 year period. Earned outstanding supply leadership award for program excellence (NCO of the Quarter).
3. Think of your best experiences over the past decade and utilize those bullets. You have accomplished so much and be bold...

Finally, google resume in the field you are interested in. Find one to copy format and refer to. Good luck

Also if you really want a job send a hand written thank you letter. You will stand out and surly move to front of line or pile of applicants.

I do not totally agree with emphasis on cover letters as a recruiter I can't tell you the last time I looked at a cover letter I don't have the time to do so and to me it is a waste of time at least from my perspective

CW3 Dylan E. Raymond, PHR, I have heard this as well. I have also heard that you need to have a cover letter. The job that I applied for and currently in the hiring process didn't say anything about a resume or cover letter. I called and talked to the HR manager and they said a cover letter isn't required. They said it would just go in my packet and probably not even be looked at. I didn't bother with one and it didn't hurt me at all since I'm in the final stages of the process. Thanks for the info.

TSgt Steve Waide - Always, Be, Closing (A, B, C) until you get the offer. Good luck.....dont stop selling yourself until you get the verbal and written offer.

A1C Doug Towsley - I would say you have to know your audience. We have people that apply for our roles and submit cover letters but honestly I dont look at them and take a very swift look based on my experience looking at the resume to identify experience. So I would say use your own judgement I dont think it is a fast and hard rule.

Agree! Plus unless it's included as part of the resume document, you may be hurting your chances . A lot of data bases will only allow for one document to upload.. So It would have to be incorporated as a page 1 of your resume.

I am a Veteran Employment Rep now. Here is a good website to locate a Veterans Employment Rep near you. They assist with resume preparation, getting you skilled up with workshops on computer programs, Interviews, Dressing for Success, online Apps, etc. Just enter your zip code and find the Job Center nearest you, most will have a Vet Rep. Call them. Tell them what you need. Most of these guys or girls have built relationships with the employers you are interested in already, and will be able to skip the line for you. Worth a try folks. https://www.careeronestop.org/LocalHelp/service-locator.aspx
