I can’t wait. More than likely I will be long gone. I wonder if humans will burrow into the ground and start adapting that way.

There's a difference between meteorology and climatology. NOAA does both, through the National Weather Service (http://www.noaa.gov/weather) and the National Centers for Environmental Information (https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/).
You can think of it as the difference between short and long term planning, or tactical versus strategic planning.
Meteorology is about short-term weather predictions (7 to 10 days max). Climatology is researching historical weather patterns in order to understand and forecast long-term weather patterns.
Unfortunately, most people are short term thinkers and don't look at the science.
