Sgt Kelli Mays Very cool - I had no idea! Go through there every time I travel home to Illinois to visit my parents. I wonder if there is still a historical site there? Awesome video - thanks for sharing!
It's still there - I'll have to check out on my way though on my Motorcycle this year!

More than six million servicemen and women who traveled through Nebraska during World War II fondly remember the hospitality of the North Platte Canteen where every troop train was met by volunteers who prepared and served sandwiches, coffee, cookies, cakes and other homemade goodies during stops there.

As a young boy I remember those feelings expressed towards our soldiers.
Our family used to invite soldiers from the local base to Sunday dinners.
