The issue isn't a partisan one — or at least, it wasn't last year. The bill passed both the House and Senate with no opposition, and no veto threat had come from the White House.
So when Obama's veto came one Friday night last July — on the last day for him to sign or veto the legislation — it took lawmakers by surprise. It was the 11th of Obama's 12 vetoes.

As far as I am concerned the only good thing President Obama did with the presidency was leave it. But I think this is nonsense. What if the money was not for speeches? What if a former President was just the person to run a non-controversial NGO and take it to new heights? Would we want to stop a great president for running St Jude's hospitals. Effective leaders who can contribute enough that someone wants to pay them more than $400k, should.

I got it, the president should recieve a salary befitting his position. However, 200k pension..I don't think so..pension, sure yet, wasn't that position voluntary..take his money and use it elsewhere that benefits all Americans..

He's a private citizen now, Why should we care how much money he gets for a speech?? Oh yeah never mind...Its PRESIDENT OBAMA...So of course the extreme right always has his name in their mouths...
