Some days Freedom Wins over Tyrannical behavior enacted by Government that has forgot it works FOR the People.
I posted about this last week, seems the social media and resounding public demand that the corruption of asset forfeiture be curtailed if not ended was heeded. Now we just need to get the Feds to understand and stop violating Americas Due Process.

"This is a tool for our troopers to use when they suspect there’s criminal activity," he said. "We don’t have access to anyone’s personal banking activity -- that’s all protected information".....so you can take my money without me going to court, being incarcerated, trial, you know simple things like DUE PROCESS? You also have a card reader that can take my money from me but you say you cannot access my banking information? That's BS. I mean red light cameras are a money making scheme, speed cameras are a money making scheme, this is a "legal" means of "stealing" from the poor and not giving it to anyone.

Asset forfeiture is a terrible injustice and needs to be outlawed coast to coast. Some jurisdictions are addicted to the additional funding and goodies that come from asset seizures. Totally corrupt.

Its free money, that's how they look at it. Even if you win in court and they have to return it the court makes money, the lawyers make money and they make interest off of it till they are forced to give it back. That's under the assumption you can even afford to fight for it. This does effect low-income more as they will be targeted. They don't have the money to fight and are more apt to be using the prepaid cards.
I agree Asset Forfeiture is a good tool in criminal cases. Which was what it was originally intended for. (Drug dealer A buys cars and homes with Drug cash, Feds and state take tangible items that could have been bought with drug money) The issue is now the Police and Feds are using it with out any Criminal investigation. There is no crime but they are still seizing property. The excuse is there is no proof your money ISNT part of a drug / criminal action. Now you have to PROVE its your money and you got it through legal means there by shifting the burden of proof to you.
At the end of the day the issue is Corruption and greed of Politicians, Elected officials, and Government. They found a easy way to generate / acquire free low risk money.
