I am sure many of us would argue with authors choices. I agree with the .12 gauge, and even the .338. But while the 6.5 creedmore is a great range gun, it’s too new, unproven, and exotic to be on my list. I would rather have a 7mm magnum. Pretty much has similar performance as the 6.5. It can be loaded very light or heavy depending on the game. The ammo is much is much more available than the 6.5.

I also agree with many of the other comments in that I would add a handgun to the list. I always have a large caliber handgun with me when I am hunting.

Before I read it, it should read......Shotgun, Bolt action in the .30 caliber range and a .22 Lever.....Like CWO3 Dennis M. said it it always nice to have a magnum strapped to your hip for a situation that may arise....One never knows....now I'll read! We'll see!

2 bolts in the .30 cal range and a shotgun and no mention of a .22.....? not the way I would go.

Agreed. I have a .300 Mag bolt action, a 12 gauge, and a Ruger 10/22. Those cover just about anything I could hunt in North America.

The thought of restricting to three weapons, for all N American game, I am sure is a daunting task. My choices are limited by the fact if I shoot it, I am going to eat it. Unless you break into my house then all bets are off.

Seriously, I will likely never go out to shoot a Goose or Duck, never tasted a one I truly liked. However, Whitetail or Mule Deer I will sit a stand for days, with either a Crossbow (bad shoulders keep me from shooting a regular bow enough to stay proficient) or my 50 Cal Black Powder rifle. I have to say I love my modern Black Powder rifle, but would love the opportunity to take a deer with a true Flintlock at some point in my life and maybe even hunt squirrel with a Kentucky Long rifle in 32 Cal.

I use a 20 gauge for other game like Doves, or early season squirrel with a lot of leaves, later season I like my Ruger 10-22 for squirrels. Pheasant are about the only game I use a 12 gauge to hunt, but haven't gotten to do that for several years now.
