It is disheartening that this person was Muslim and here is why I say that. An LGBTQ club was shot up. This was clearly a hate crime against the queer community. But because of the religious views of the shooter it will be labeled terrorism and not a hate crime. We will focus on gun control. We will focus on domestic terrorism. But we will not focus on the fact that the worst act of gun violence in this country occurred against...specifically against...the LGBTQ community. This person could have as easily been a Christian fundamentalist. An atheist. A member of the KKK. But because he was Muslim or because he was of middle eastern dissent, we will ignore his victims.
The same day, in California another man drove to an LGBT parade in a car filled with fire arms. He was stopped short of his target by police and FBI.
I am a parent. I am a Christian. I am an American and the same feelings that many of you have, I share. But I am also a member of the LGBT community. This was the most extreme version of what hate can do. But that same hate hurts in other ways. Through legislation. Through discrimination. Through bullying and assault.
Be mad at the shooter...I am. But remember that he targeted his victims out of hate for who they were.

So, if it was a straight night club, that would be different? I appreciate you are a trans, but whining about why, the reason over 100 people were killed, doesn't mean a thing to me. Over 100 American lives were destroyed. That's how I see it. They can call it whatever they want to. It doesn't change what happened.

SGT (Join to see) - If it were a straight club it would not have happened. They were killed because they were gay. They were targeted and murdered because they were gay. My aim is not to whine. My aim is to ensure that we do not lose sight of that important point and as a result the need to bring further LGBT protections and equality.

I don't agree. It could have. It didn't this time, but it will. These crazies hate everything American. He was offended seeing two men kissing. I would have been offended too, but I wouldn't have killed anyone over it. It's a two way killing this time. He didn't approve of gays and he didn't approve of Americans. I don't think anyone will lose sight of the fact it was a gay nightclub. That has been mentioned on the news right along with his support for ISIS. I don't think any Americans care it was a gay nightclub. Over two million dollars have been donated. Jet Blue is giving free trips to Orlando for relatives and friends. If this tragedy did anything, it opened the eyes of Americans that we're all human beings, no matter what our beliefs are.

It is disheartening that this person had such self hate for himself as a gay man that he tried to eliminate what he believed was wrong with himself.

LGBT community hears from religious groups and other communities we are part of that being gay is wrong or something you learn/catch from being around gay people. I wouldn't doubt if both of these issues were part of the reasons for this tragedy. So how can we move the country to look at people for their contributions to our community & society as a whole instead of 1 aspect of who they are? Because without doing THAT, no amount of gun reform or laws will change a damn thing.

If not happy then he should return to his country. The keywords "well-known anti-American."

SGT Eric Flores, They're too chickenshit to go back home. They would rather live here and sponge off society until things don't go their way. We would probably be surprised how many anti-Americans there are living here. I would hope most immigrants that live here appreciate what we stand for and they become successful productive citizens. If not, you're right, they can get the hell out of here and go back to their third world country.
