This is historic, and sad. Ataturk's vision for a modern Turkey, a vital member of Europe, a democratic Muslim society, is lost. The people of Turkey, Europe and the Middle East are all harmed by this purge.

Turkey being a democratic country and such, no doubt all those 50,000 got due process and their day in court as they would in US.

I Hope, Erdogan has a real woody for those that ally themselves with his onetime political partner that he believes turned on him.

Good thing is that Turkish Government hasn't conducted Capital Punishment since 1984 and eliminated it from their Judicial Process I think 12 years ago as part of their ongoing process/effort to join the European Union.

Beginning of another Sharia dominated country on Europeans southern border. Remember, it was the Turks that were stopped at the gates of Vienna in 1683. Europe under siege and they don't have the will to stop it.

The Turkish Hanafi/Sunni is Significantly Different in their Interpretation of Sharia than their Wahabi/Sunni Bretheren to the South. In a lot of ways and outward appearance it more closely resembles European Culture. Turkey was the Hub, the Center of the Ottoman Empire and always fancied themselves more Civilized than the Sand People, Their Redneck Cousins to the South.
