Politics are just nasty. To a note mentioned in the article, and I’m certain that there is some historical precedence, I believe that we should further trim the “privilege” of protection against slander from those running for political office and in some cases against the judiciary. I teach, part time, at a police training academy for an HBCU in my area and see how these things impact the constituents. We run exercises on judgement calls with limited or manufactured information and then we introduce the remainder of the evidence (2 days) after they make their judgement call. Upon reevaluation, we have them apply all evidence, make their judgement call and then write about any emotional conflict that may exist between their initial judgement call and the personal conflict that may come with having to change their mind on something that we’ve allowed to seat in their mind for a period of time. We are employing strategies that the general public either doesn’t consider or doesn’t realize is occurring. Emotional manipulation, similar to that in other unhealthy relationships, is abundant in politics and they understand the human nature to dig in and stand behind slanderous claims even when it can be proven false. It’s a point of humility and vulnerability that we like to think we are immune against. I’ve dealt with the same mindset with young women who remain victims because of shame, fear, the unknown, and the emotional attachment to those who would take advantage of them. These are the attitudes of many in certain voting bases and yet they continue to support and enable this type of corruption. I’d be surprised if anything comes of this case.

The bar for our "leaders" should be higher not lower than for the general public

Given the lead, these few votes make no difference in the results. Casey lost. Get over it. It took almost 2 weeks for our losing Senatorial candidate to concede. He would have had to pay for a recount and it would have turned out the same.
