CW5 Jack Cardwell, My first jump was from a Fairchild C-119 "Flying Boxcar" on 7APR70. My photo is of a C-119 at then Pope AFB prior to a jump on a Fort Bragg DZ on 16JUL70 as part of SFTG. It was unbelievablely underpowered. When I made my first jump, the C-119 had already been in service over 20 years! Needless to say, this piece of junk is no longer in service!

As a kid I grew up in the sandhills around Ft Bragg. I used to love seeing those flying boxcars in the sky.

CW5 Jack Cardwell, you would have been about 16 years old in 1970, so I may have been aboard one of those old C-119s you watched fly over your home!
