This is good news. Hopefully this is a positive reflection on what the outcome of SFC Charles Martland's appeal will be.
“This announcement is to inform you that we are now conducting a full assessment addressing these issues.” Among the questions that the investigation seeks to answer, Moorefield wrote, are whether troops were instructed — either officially or through unofficial channels — to ignore sexual abuse, how many cases of child sexual abuse had been reported to the U.S. military and whether those reports had been forwarded to the Afghan government, and whether American troops have been trained properly to deal with the issue.
The investigation also seeks to determine what legal authorities American troops have on bases in Afghanistan to intervene or to use force if they witness or are informed of sexual abuse of a child, Moorefield wrote."

Its about time. There are some things that are universally wrong regardless of your culture.

While I support this, the fact we're in a foreign land and want to "police" their people is making a bad situation worse. We should be required to report what is told to us to higher and allow our higher to work with their host nation counterparts to resolve the situation (common sense). We shouldn't inflict our morals and values on them. All that would come of that is more troops killed. We can't turn the other cheek, but damn this puts us between a rock and a hard place. If we act every time someone says something, we'd have no time to conduct missions being we'd be writing sworn statements more than counseling's.
