LTG Buckner's history is well known to me, and others who spent time at Fort McClellan, AL, SGT John " Mac " McConnell! Buckner Circle at old Fort McClellan is named for him. Buckner Circle is a huge horseshoe oval shaped road encircling a park (1&2), and is surrounded by headquarters buildings (1), senior officer housing (3), the Silver Chapel (4), Remington Hall (the officers' club-5) and other buildings. The area is now in civilian hands and most of the buildings and area are still quite attractive to this day. COL Mikel J. Burroughs SGT David A. Oh sure- I meant Street.... that Street name is on many US Posts including Fort Leavenworth. Now, I know the "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to say. Man I miss that guy.

GySgt John Olson, I made that observation to LTC (Join to see) in my first response to my original comment. Fort McClellan was indeed named for MG George McClellan (War of Northern Aggression) and Buckner Circle was named for LTG Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr. (WWII), the original subject of the discussion thread.
