The article does a good job of depicting why there is a disconnect between civilians at home and fighting abroad; however, it neglects to mention that the "mission creep" it describes, is also normal to shifting regional and global objectives and "meddling" in international affairs is also a cornerstone of building and maintaining a country as a world power.
