Great post! Most people don't realize that a bunch of the European and Asian carriers (Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, JAL, Cathay Pacific etc.) have already proven this model called "ab-initio" training for hiring cockpit crew members. Those countries do not have the robust civilian flight training and military trained pilots to hire from so they have to farm their own. JetBlue is out front on this issue and other domestic US airlines are sure to follow given the fact that all of their senior captains and first officers will be forced to retire at age 65 (US Law) and the demand for commercial air travel is not decreasing at all.

It sounds like a win win situation for all concerned. I think it's exciting that someone who always wanted to fly an airplane can get the opportunity. Thanks for your post.

Do you have any support information that talks to the formal Jet Blue announcement? Thanks in advance!

JetBlue to Recruit Two-Dozen Non-Fliers to be Pilots
JetBlue wants to recruit a few flight students with no flying experience and train them to become pilots.

That is an interesting motto you have posted SGT (Join to see). Pilots do it to get high sounds like something Hunter S. Thompson would have penned back in the day when we have a gonzo journalist.
