England is far ahead of America in building the nanny state, but we're nipping at their heels all the time. Yes, obesity is a problem, but it's my problem, not yours. Not the government's either. Of course, if we demand that the government pay the price of obesity-related disease, then the government has a right to take responsibility for our eating habits. Rights and Responsibility are obverse sides of the same coin.

Many people don't understand that if the government takes over healthcare, they will be punished for obesity/smoking/excessive alcohol use.

Absolutely spot on! When I was a trader, there was a saying that the DOW reflects what the US will be like in 6 months. I think the UK is the same for us if we keep allowing liberal socialists anywhere near power. Sen Graham was right!

Governments are lobbied by the food and drug industries who have a vested interest in profit who are telling them how to guide our eating habits. We know there are chemical sweeteners that are known to alter the DNA of good bacteria which is part of our digestive system. If we share DNA with the majority of organisms on this planet, what damage are these chemical sweeteners doing to our DNA.

I know an English girl who was just over for holiday in August. While we were at the shooting range (she is the British version of Annie Oakley) she mentioned seriously considering moving to the US due to the British nanny state.

So now a person ordering a pizza that is about a 1000 calaories, will just order two 700 calorie pizzas and eat both of them, upping caloric intake by about 40%.
Clearly the only solution is to establish government weigh-in stations for monthly checks. Any one that exceeds the height weight chart for their age group will be taken into custody and work as a slave laborer for six months. If they are not within standards at the end of six months, they will be taken to the nearest elementary school, drawn and quartered then fed to feral pigs while the kiddies watch.
