I don't see where confusion would come in.
But if you would like to explore who did what, all one needs do is examine where the borders of Poland were, and where they are now. The Germans were forced to return portions of Poland they annexed, and indeed significant portions of Pomerania, East Prussia, and Selesia after the war. The Soviets kept the land they took (as well as a chunk of East Prussia Russia still owns).
