SSgt Robert Marx, apparently it was a chaplain who first uttered the words during the attack on Pearl Harbor that was the basis for the song. PO3 Steven Sherrill

Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition - Wikipedia
"Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition" is an American patriotic song by Frank Loesser,[1] and published as sheet music in 1942 by Famous Music Corp. The song was a response to the attack on Pearl Harbor that marked United States involvement in World War II.

OK! I recall reading about it being used at Pearl Harbor. So much valor was displayed then, with many service members giving their all for the country. I believe that chaplain was aboard one of the battleships as its crew moved to get the anti-aircraft canon operating. All of the ammunition was locked up being peace time.
