The medical communities are re introducing PRIMARY CARE , back to basics. History is repeating it's self. Below is a high level overview of this 'new' care model.
We call it 'cradle to grave' care or professionally known a full spectrum managed care delivery system. Care is coordinated real time with a multidisciplinary approach based on patients diagnosis, a basic team consists of Primary Care Physician (PCP), patient, their support system, social worker, pharmacy, specialists , nutritionist and Community Based Organizations (CBO) for example.
The patient is continually assessed medically, psychologically and financially (mind, body, spirit ). Other specialists tend to the patient as the need arises or proactively if a red flag that 'something' is brewing.
I am proud and humbled to say, today is day 3 in my new position as the Lead Director of Care Management Implementation for the largest public health system in the country to 'undo' the one size fits all healthcare 'system' approach.
Feel free to DM if you want more info or guidance.

Congratulations Col Dona Marie Iversen. Sounds a little like the way the VA has their medical system set up. Don't be humbled. You done good ma'am.

Col Dona Marie Iversen You're so welcome. Did I mention you deserve it? No? You deserve it and more.

Good for you. Congratulations. Managed care, primary care, continuity of care, I'm reading a fun book now called "how we do harm". Recommend it if you haven't read it yet.

Actually doing genomic testing for medication response based on your specific DNA. I have it and can't get a single physician to look at it.

Col Rebecca Lorraine, I wonder why that is? Have you tried the VA system? It might be easier to get interest in the VA since your a COL. In the military. I'll bet you've tried everything. That sucks you can't get any interest. It sounds like an excellent program.

SGT (Join to see) - The Va is my primary provider and they just keep pushing more medications on me. They don't want to look at this profile Medicare paid for because they don't understand it. Healthcare and medicine are bombarded with change. Technology, new treatments, new medications, new innovative ideas, obamacare changes, and seeing 30 patients (+\- 10) you get burned out. You make a mistake and your sued or you do more harm than good. The mindless medical healthcare admin types have wonderful ideas, but burnout is high, yet you must keep working. I have lived at provider and now patient and I am amazed that I managed as I did, but my health paid a price.

Col Rebecca Lorraine, The VA is a government agency as you well know. They probably have contracts with pill pushers, like all government entities do. I'm not saying they get kickbacks, but they probably get kickbacks like going on nice trips, hunting and fishing trips, etc. That's the way it was at the company I worked for. They were paying $100 for a heat gun with a one year warranty. I found the same brand at a SAMs Warehouse for $10 and a two year warranty. The purchase manager wasn't interested. He told me they have contracts they have to buy from. They had to sell the business because of the economy dropping. I don't feel one bit sorry for them. It's a shame it's that way.
