The key was that most orally introduced probiotics pass straight through from one orifice to the other...

By "depends" are you using the word as a verb, or a product name?

Micro-flora, (all the single cell living stuff inside us) is dependent on what we put in us. If you eat a healthy well-balanced diet all the time, then go on a road trip; living on a diet of RedBull, slim jims, and 7-11 burritos, guess what happens to your digestive system. The micro-flora in the major majority doesn't do as well on that crap and what it does to your digestive chemistry. Flatulence is the old micro-floras death rattle.

If you keep eating that road trip diet, eventually the micro-flora will adjust, new micro flora will become dominant and eventually your wife will let you back in the house. But it can take months to create a balanced eco-system in there. So I think they are dead on. If your dietary habits don't match up with the pro-biotics you are taking, your wasting your time. It's like asking tigers to live on a cow's diet.
