Thought many would find this of high interest, its a short list - but still a very interesting short list. It focuses on the American - European supporters (main focus is IS but the page has others in there as well in the recruiting from the grave portion). For some - this provides a face to the how aspect of propaganda - for others it is the who is working the online aspects. But either or - this is an item you are going to want a read.

The reality of life is that we have a lot of people with mental illness, looking for a place to belong too, and these websites talks to their inner beliefs. This is no different that TV commercials pitching a new product, because both speak in humans inner desire which feeds their wants but not their needs by masking their products as needs.

Perhaps in some cases it may be mental illness - but that does not account for the call being heard for so many that do not fit that category. And it can not be quantified in economic terms as was tried in the early years of AQ despite all data showing that they were from all types of income backgrounds and job skills. But it is the pitch to their inner beliefs that you are on target in saying - there is where IS collects its volunteers. The military pitches such as well with patriotism - IS pitches it with a religious aspect of global nationalism.....

LTC Eric Udouj - AQ, should never be discussed by Old Timers that had a hand in that mess; remember the 80's! The reality is that we Westerners see the crazies based upon our way of thinking, while the crazies judge us for not hearing the same head voices. Facing facts we created the bastard children that we abandoned and with the years they reproduced; that makes us Old Timers Dr Frankenstein or Dr. Moreau. It comes down to us recognizing that we created a monster and must now decide to destroy it along with is offspring. I like the use of the word offspring (off meaning kill)!

It is important to understand that social media is a platform for communications - and as such - like containment - attempting to restrict is ineffective approach. Have been in countries that have firewalls up - and seen people get around it with common knowledge. To beat these guys - and I do mean to win --- isolation or restricting is a counter measure when one does not have the initiative. It requires an attack on the ideology itself - and from a credible source that IS considers to be an actual threat to them..... that is not the US State Dept or DOD....

LTC Eric Udouj - Nothing is gained by putting up walls (isolation or restricting) because ideas spread no matter, but more is accomplished by poisoning (counter measure) the message of the ideas.
