Proxy wars and the demise of conventional warfighting | The Strategist

Interesting read... but its points often fall short of target. The four mass weapons really are not new items.. nor are they exactly worthy of something different than where they are already at. What changed was in the way we communicate individually - and such is a revolution in communications. Dissemination of information has long occurred through platforms - instruction used to be by hardcopy book or pamphlet. Pick up a copy of any How To FM or CTT book.. or a copy of the old Anarchist Cookbook - and that is how it was done in the past to inform. The Soviets had a means of surveillance of their population that was already a mass means. But this article is a good read over all in its bigger focus... though proxy wars were really those fought not by the Great Powers.. but by forces in their interest. Perhaps Angola is a better example - or Ethiopia and Somalia.
