Putin and Xi test a budding military alliance in the Pacific -- and step up confrontation

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a clear message on Tuesday: They are ready to test the limits of their budding military partnership in the Pacific.
Here's what we know: Early on Tuesday, both South Korea and Japan scrambled fighters to respond to Russian and Chinese military aircraft flying a joint sortie through a region.
Things escalated dramatically. According to South Korea, two Chinese H-6 bombers passed into Seoul's Air Defense Identification Zone, joined by two Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff claimed they fired warning shots at a Russian A-50 command and control military aircraft that twice violated their airspace.
Japan's Ministry of Defense backed up South Korea's claims, saying the A-50 intruded on Japan's airspace while the Russian and Chinese bombers flew around Japan. (The island area flown over in the incident is claimed by South Korea and Japan.)

Yep, And Putin has been given a open field day for Russia, as Trump preferring to side w/ Putin and not our intelligence community.

Ya know - I don't mean to play devil's advocate, but the Soviet Union was defeated by spending it to death. Let our potential enemies buy their toys and fly 'em and sail 'em. Let them jump feet first into another arms race. China has a carrier battle group and a budding amphibious group. They have enough toys to take Taiwan but have not done it. So I'm gonna suggest that they are going to "take" Taiwan the old fashioned way - patience and kindness. The world has seen Hong Kong and how China has treated it and so at some point, Taiwan will see that and a peaceful reunification will take place.
Combined ops? Well....you have to train and test things. Can't have a carrier battle group and not test it. Ships need to learn to sail together, operate together, attack a target together, etc. So I don't really put too much credence in any activities Russia and China do together. Plus, let's not forget that Russia's carrier had to be towed to Syria to get into the fight. Hardly something to be scared about. And lets also not forget that China still owns a ton of American financial stuff (notes, bonds, etc). If China wanted to hurt us, it won't be on the battlefield.

MSG Stan Hutchison - True but China is letting Hong Kong sort its own problem out. That's been done before as well.

PO3 Donald Murphy - I am not so sure about that. Perhaps they are waiting for the right moment to step in and take total control.

MSG Stan Hutchison - The longer they allow Hong Kong to do its own thing the more friendly they look. I think thats their overall goal. To get Taiwan to the point where they say "hey, being part of mainland China isn't so bad." And the closer South and North Korea get is something Taiwan watches as well.
