Soleimani, like any good adversary, believes in the justness of his cause in furthering Iran's geopolitical foreign policies as the counterbalance to the Sunni states that surround it.

To understand his and Iran's motivation, one needs to look no further than the Sunni/Shiite (and Israeli) schism. Iran will never waste an opportunity to further erode Saudi influence as well as continue its proxy war against Israel. They are the regional superpower in the Near East and want, more than anything, the respect that they feel they deserve. Soleimani is the main arbiter of that policy.

Thanks as always LTC Eric Udouj for a good piece that's not domestic politics ;-)

We never have much luck beating guys who are at the top of their game - being the guys we often pit against them overestimate their own abilities and when you do that with a Great Captain - he tends to beat you before your hand is even played.

Easier said than done. How many people are you willing to spend giving him lead poisoning? No matter what side he is on he is good at what he does, and will not be cheap to take out.
