Before I provide you the detail of this post I want wish a Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all you Irishmen and Women in RP land and also to all who are Irish for a Day... My forebears were from Donegal, Ireland! I am a 3rd generation American Irishman...
"Donegal is a town at the mouth of the River Eske, in northwest Ireland. Originally built in the 15th century, Donegal Castle has later additions from the Jacobean period. The Four Masters Memorial obelisk honours 4 scribes from the nearby Franciscan friary, now in ruins. Donegal Railway Heritage Centre hosts rail memorabilia in an old station house. Donegal Bay is home to a seal colony, plus cormorants and cranes." ― Google
Having stated a little Irish History, I move on to the meat of today's post regarding the imaging of the James Webb Space Telescope, which will be in two parts. This is part one, which delineates the mirror alignment process of the 18 mirror segments into one point of light capture...
"The James Webb space telescope began its 3-month long mirror alignment and send its first images on 11 February. The primary mirrors on the JWST need to align the 18 hexagonal mirrors with a precision of 1/10,00th of a human hair. There are 7 steps/phases in the mirror alignment process, out of which 3 are completed and 4 remains. All these 7 steps should be completed without any hiccups so that we can witness its first beautiful images of space. This video explains all the 7 mirror alignment steps in detail. Watch the full video :)" - Beyond Space
Those of you who have followed my Posts regarding the JWST may have already noticed the increased clarity of the images transmitted to Earth by the JWST... This video will explain in relatively simple terms what is involved in the alignment and where we are today in the process...
The second post I am making will take this a step further... These posts will come pretty close together, so watch for them...
