Likely because most compromise doesn't involve deeply held principles. Most policies are not on the same level of principles as things like inhumanity, racism, disregard for the nation, etc as the "bad man" (aka 45) embodied.
If Trump were a democrat and I agreed with every single one of his policies I still would have kicked him to the curb, because he was a danger to the country. Policies are not worth compromising ethics for.

Compromise for the sake of compromise isn't strength, it's weakness. Violating principle to fit in or be liked is a losing proposition.
