There are not enough Jobs for Italian Nationals, let alone the vast amount of Migrants that have crossed the Med. and came into Italy, I live in Lago Patria, Italy, just out side the NATO base, Naples has 30% unemployment rate, most of the secondary Jobs, like Landscaping, valet trash pick-up, crop harvesting, are starting to be done by Italian Nationals, who vote. It's kind of hard to vote for supporting outsiders, when your family is hungry. It's as simple as that. Also, the "massive drop" in tourism is European wide, and Italy was a "red" country for most of the tourist season, so the large tour busses with Asian Tourists did not happen, the Cruise ships with their thousands of tourists did not happen, Americans did not fly to Italy, and still cannot. To call it xenophobia to want to prioritize your citizens first, in an economic catastrophe, is idiocy, it is not the outsiders who vote and determine the countries path, but the Italian Nationals who do, and it is not the worlds business to criticize or interfere with how the Italians run their country.
I truly and am completely amazed that people here rant scream and go ballistic about meddling in our country, yet happily post shit about the US meddling with other countries, and yes, a Media hit piece about a foreign country, by a large US media entity, is absolutely meddling.
