Pretty pathetic. People like this imam and his wife help give Islam a black eye. In my view, he should be dismissed from the service. There is no room in the military for a convicted thief ... particularly not one that is an officer and chaplain.

By no means would I want a chaplain who does such things. He needs to self correct that behavior before he become a a spiritual leader.

CH (COL) Geoff Bailey, I would rather the judge have dismissed this chaplain (or any commissioned officer) from the service rather than forfeit a month's pay.
As to comparison between commissioned and enlisted, I really don't have a decent response. I assume that since the punishment could have been "up to a year", perhaps the charge was considered a misdemeanor and not a felony, and regardless of rank, no jail time would be required. I just don't know.
In any event, I don't think this chaplain should continue in that capacity, and he should also be dismissed from the service.
