I will wait and see how the new boss does. I certainly hope he kills the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and any more Zumwalt DDGs if they have not already been cancelled. Also stop buying three different types of amphib ships. Buy something similar to the French Mistral class ship.
We can neither afford nor do we really need these weapons systems at this time. Buy AT-6B attack aircraft. $6 million per aircraft and it does a better job of fighting the wars we are fighting now and will be fighting over the next 10 to 15 years. Plus you can buy 20 for roughly the same cost as one JSF and the cost per flight hour is nowhere close. Buy 200 foot long 1000 ton corvettes that have the same weapons systems as the LCS but cost between 15% and 25% as much as the LCS. 5 corvettes for one LCS. Don't buy ships whose ammo costs so much you can not fire training rounds (Zumwalt). Put the rest of the money back into ship and aircraft operations and maintenance. If you buy three mistral type ships which are cheaper than the current LPDs or LHAs you can split the MEU into three equal parts to deal with three separate situations. Right now most of the MEU is on the LHA and a small number of troops are on the LPD. It doesn't give you the flexibility you need for todays environment. Plus your devil dog eggs are note all in one basket.
The Navy has lost it's ability to have presence around the world. You will never get to that magical 600 ship idea buying expensive ships especially when you don't need them in 95% of the world. The way the Navy buys ships right now is like the army buying tanks for everyone instead of Humvees.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Eat your words?Do tell!
Trump’s goals for the service would be similar to former Secretary of the Navy John Lehman and President Ronald Reagan – to put as many ships under contract as possible to plus up the Navy’s numbers quickly.
Interesting that he wants to "plus" up, here we go again with the lets build up and then someone else will come in to bring numbers down.
