Ray Tomlison is a name most have never heard of but he has changed the way of life as we know it today. His biggest invention was email, the ability to send a message from one specific person to another over the ARPANET. Some of you may remember that the ARPANET was developed for DOD. I've been on computers since 1974 and I remember him well and always thought it was pretty amazing when I did it on IBM mainframe compuetrs. In the early 90's as the Internet was really taking hold, I was teaching my fellow teachers how to do email. It really was amazing to see their reactions to something as simple as getting a message.
My sympathies to Ray's family, friends and colleagues. Rest in peace sir, knowing that you literally made the world smaller and with a last impact.

All the great pioneers are leaving us. . . this is Bull$^&!. Seriously, though, I don't recall ever using "@" outside of an email address. I'm curious about this carrot "^" too - suspect character.

So true SGT (Join to see)! I think many of these characters are still on computer keyboards for programming purposes and not necessarily everyday use.
