A good summary. I've always been fascinated by him (hey, dynamite comes in small packages). My take is that he was an excellent commander because he understood how artillery, cavalry, and infantry work as one...the precursor to modern combined arms theory. He was a highly successful leader because he understood the powerful imagery of the head of state at the head of the battle. Others tried to copy him (de Santa Anna most notably)...but he was indeed "unique".
