I remember this scene as an 8 -year old in 1970 from a local Los Angeles, California TV Station. I have this 1945 movie They Were Expendable. I have an Elco designed Motor Torpedo Patrol Boat model that I have yet to build. I will build it this summer.

I remembered seeing the movie PT-109 not long before I joined the Navy Brother Stephen, and one of the boats I volunteered for was a PT boat that had turbine engines in it. I'm kinda glad I didn't get on it though. I can't imagine what kind of work it did. I always feared falling overboard and getting caught by the VC and a boat with turbine engines would reach a helluva speed. That thing would throw anybody off that wasn't tied down. The boat I was on did about 8 knots top speed.

LTC Stephen Conway - Damn!! That is one helluva fast boat Brother Stephen!! Seeing the exhaust from the boat when it was docked made me realize how much I missed the smell of diesel exhaust
