Americans really are the most badass people in the world. Watch this Englishman proclaim it. And, it's true. We've been smacked down by great fires, floods, and cyclonic storms throughout our history, and we just deal with them. We don't expect anyone or any nation to save us. We just take care of the destruction ourselves. Sure, there are many Americans who will sit on their roofs waiting for "the government" to save them, but most of them will be saved by their neighbors.

One day our pride and self-infatuation will get the better of us when the time comes for Jesus to return. I know it's uncouth to talk about religion, but my Bible tells me to be bold as lions and harmless as doves. Bonus points if you can quote a few lines of scripture for me.

I used this passage in letters I wrote on behalf of the 9th Infantry Division chaplain to next of kin of KIA's. (He was too busy playing tennis to write them himself.) Later I learned that it was President Reagan's favorite passage which he recited to himself as he surveyed his favorite place on Earth, his ranch.
