Remembering Herb Kelleher

Southwest Airlines was my first job after retiring from the AF in '91. I met Herb several times during the three years I worked there. That man was completely off his rocker… in a good way. The real power at SWA at the time was actually Colleen Barrett, Herbs former secretary. The current president, Gary Kelly, was running finance during my short stay. VP Al Gore came to the headquarters building to give a speech about innovation and investment. Herb was standing behind Gore rolling his eyes and making faces. Poor Al never figured out we were applauding Herb and not him.
