I hope it is better for Vets than it was 25 years ago when I was actively seeking a job. I went to work as a civilian for the Army in 1991, and being a disabled vet added 10 points to my test score. That was the first job related break I ever got as a Veteran.

I think the job market sucks for everyone. As an engineer with 14 years experience I have found that there is not a lack of tech people, but a lack of employers looking to pay for them. The culture seems to be that they want to hire the best for nothing.

Great share! After 5 years of corporate recruiting experience I agree with the fact that hiring managers don't understand us. In my current role I am working on a "Guide to Recruiting Veterans" that lists the AFSC/MOS/Ratings with a link to a website for a description. I've also added a chart that discusses the different ranks and the titles each branch uses for them. Finally, I've included a list of questions that the recruiters and hiring managers can ask that are designed to elicit more information from the veterans and get them to talk in terms of "I" instead of the way we are taught in the military which is in terms of "team" or "we". I've shared this article with my organization this morning.
