When I lived on base, I was allowed to keep my weapons in my quarters and freely transport them on and off base. There was no requirement regarding how I stored them in my quarters.
My airmen living in the barracks had to store their firearms in the armory.

This is a very dumb Jar Head using the analogy of civilians should be under the same system as personnel in the military. The military is a strong arm socialist structure with a chain of command and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Where you are told what to do and when. To the point of sitting on your hands for hours like a prisoner to killing people and breaking things, when told to do so. And practicing in between. That is not what American citizens should or are willing to do.

We are and there are already plenty of regulations. If regulations currently on the books in the individual states are not being upheld, more regulations and forces behavior will change nothing. Criminals will still do exactly the same as they have always done and will continue to do. Regulations which remove freedoms and liberties, only apply to lawful tax paying citizens who live their lives trying to do the right thing, while in the pursuit of Happiness. PV2 Larry Sellnow

PV2 Larry Sellnow Are you suggesting the federal government should overrule states and their constitutions? That is having one rule for all? I do believe the Governors and their Legislators are the ones who make the rules for their constituents at the state level. That is what the constitution of the United States of America say’s and/or infers on such matters. The second amendment says “shall not infringe”.
James Madison. In Federalist No. 46, Madison wrote how a federal army could be kept in check by state militias, "a standing army ... would be opposed [by] a militia." He argued that state militias "would be able to repel the danger" of a federal army, "It may well be doubted, whether a militia thus circumstanced could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops." He contrasted the federal government of the United States to the European kingdoms, which he described as "afraid to trust the people with arms", and assured that "the existence of subordinate governments ... forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition".
Gun laws and regulations made by the people and for their individual circumstances thru their elected officials in the legislature of their state’s.
Not one size fits all.

Actually it is a privacy issue in the first place. If I make a knife or sword do I have to tell someone I have it?They are both tools of war and cause bodily harm and death, just like a gun. Many states have background checks. And they have been there for many years. But it is an expense put on the public, to exercise a right. It is very expensive to have a background check performed, if the individual had never had a security clearance or criminal record. By the way, Have you ever heard of the “Privacy Act of 1974”? Just sayin PV2 Larry Sellnow

I also kept weapons in quarters. At Fort Gordon there used to be machine gun shoots. Privately owned machine guns were brought to light up targets. Everyone has an opinion. When I was on base in Saudi and Bosnia we had weapons with us at all times.
