Not good, smaller pieces will take longer for their orbit to deteriorate or decay and clear the area.

Unless it is titanium, they should evaporate when they do lose orbit. Unfortunately, for now, they are still bullets that can kill other satellites, hurt the space station, or kill an astronauts doing space walks.
