An interesting coincidence. While an Infantry Officer Candidate I delivered an oral book report on a similar subject. My focus was the theory that Pearl Harbor had been set up as a tantalizing target for the Japanese to provide an excuse for the US to enter WWII. My discussion revolved around the responsibility of military officers to follow orders in perpetrating such a scheme vs resisting them to avoid the calamity that was bound to ensue. Ultimately, I argued that the results were necessary and providential while the alternative might not have been. Thus, as professional military members, we could again be faced with the same issues of "knowledge, cognition, beliefs, compensations, communications, leadership, trust, and character". I think I will have to read this book.
