I bet they could run out of money since Putin than the other oligarchs are they are one of the few who actually have money. By being complicit with OPEC, they take the risk of losing money because Canada could easily ramp up half a million barrels of oil a day with or without a Keystone XL pipeline. Sorry your great white North cousin to the north hash oil carbon tax CO2 be damned so they've already spent two billion to help mitigate greenhouse gases even though Canada only produces 2% they are trying to get Social license by going green but the radical left green party and the environmentalist buy it but the oil from Saudi Arabia Iraq Iran Venezuela and Russia who for the most part don't put pollution controls but it's okay because the left doesn't mind them.

If true it would appear that Putin is walking into the same trap that led the communists to bankrupt the USSR, and the same fate may befall Russia. Such a situation could represent an opportunity that a businessman like Trump would recognize and exploit. He could use it to form a relationship between the US and Russia, much like a larger corporation absorbing a smaller one. Of course, Russia would retain its sovereignty but the US could have a freer hand in helping Russia exploit its resources. Russia would have to surrender any illusions it has of rebuilding an empire.
