I am not a strong advocate for Foreign intervention by US Military force or regime change (none of our attempts to do this after 9/11 have worked out too good), but if there was one country in the Middle East that I would seriously think of supporting an armed invasion and removal of the existing leadership and government it is Saudi Arabia and the the House of Saud.
They are more complicit in 9/11 than anyone has ever wanted to admit. The Bush family and their personal relationship to the House of Saud shielded and protected the Royal family from the US Public's wrath and blow back after 9/11, allowing members of Osam Bin Ladin's family to leave the US immediately after the attack on the US, instead of detaining them for questioning by CIA/FBI.
We all know that Osama Bin Laden and parts of his family paid for and planned and executed the 9/11 Attacks, and then continued supporting his hiding from US Justice for years. Fifteen of the Nineteen Attackers/Hijackers were Saudis.
GWB was incredibly stupid when he invaded Iraq. Many of us believe if he was going to invade any country, it should have been Saudi Arabia and deposed their monarchy and rebuilt their government and eliminated the government's support of Wahhabi Islam. Stop the export of this form of Islam which is responsible for so much of the Muslim Extremist Violence against other Muslims and the West. The Saudi government has been coddling the Wahhabi Clerics and failing to take action against their extremism in the hope that they would not target the Saudi family or government.
We keep talking about the danger that Iran poses to the region, but just as dangerous to world peace is the Saudi Government and its conservative intolerant form of Islam called Wahhabism.
The Saudis, with US supplied weapons and weapon systems have been waging war against the Houthi Shia forces in Yemen, while pointedly ignoring the Sunni Extremist in Yemen, the Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
We have been timid in our demands that the Saudis make needed reforms to their society. Since 9/11 we should have been increasing pressure on the Saudis and their government with the threat of military force in the background if the Saudis do not make reforms and eliminate their support for Sunni Muslim Extremism.
Those redacted 28 pages from the 9/11 report, which cover Saudi involvement in the 9/11 attack, which Obama promised to release, are going to shed some light into whether or not at least some of the 9/11 attackers received support (financial and otherwise) from person's inside the Saudi Government.
The Saudi have been very reluctant allies in the war against ISIS, while at the same time they continue to support and export the very fundamentalist and intolerant Wahhabi form of Islam.
Now the family members of the victims of 9/11 are demanding Justice from Saudi Arabia and their government in their civil law suits, and the Saudis are actually threatening to destabilize the US economy by withdrawing their assets her in the US - "Adel al-Jubeir, the Saudi foreign minister, delivered the kingdom’s message personally last month during a trip to Washington, telling lawmakers that Saudi Arabia would be forced to sell up to $750 billion in treasury securities and other assets in the United States before they could be in danger of being frozen by American courts."
in light of that threat, the US should freeze Saudi Assets in the US IMMEDIATELY! The time to obfuscate and hide the truth from the American people about the role the Saudis and their government played in 9/11 are over! Donald Trump (just like Obama promised) has promised to release the 28 pages of the 9/11 report that are classified and are still being withheld from the US Public if he is elected president. Hillary Clinton signed a letter in 2003 supporting the release of those 28 pages of the 9/11 report. She has been pretty quiet on this lately. Too bad the reporters are not pressing her to see if she has flip flopped on yet another of her "flexible" positions.
