Savagery at Salerno

How many times are the D Day landings at Normandy used to show one item or another in operation strategy and yet how such came to be is never discussed? How close failure came in the landing at Salerno and then by the disastrous landing at Anzio are not usually mentioned at all but are critical lessons in so many ways for planning. Leadership played a critical role in the all aspects of the landing and battle -- ranging from poor senior leadership to superb tactical leadership. The lessons to be learned are many - and yet it is not often looked at.
